Participate in The Smokers' Rebellion
To turn the tide we're going to need a true National Alliance and a united coalition of individuals and groups working to restore the balance of liberty. We can only hope that eventually it will become reality. For now, we can create one of our own and have some fun expressing ourselves and relieving the frustration by joining together to bring about The Smokers' Rebellion.
Relate your own experiences and ideas through comments on this post and the best ones will be incorporated into future chapters of the story. I won't use anyone's real name (unless you want me to and I have written permission) because I don't want to take anyone somewhere they might not want to go.
Following posts in various forums and reading comments on other blogs tells me that individuals and groups ARE protesting and making statements. Problem is nobody hears much about it in MSM (main stream media).
As with their bias toward reporting only the negative news from Iraq to reinforce their campaign against the war, against the president, against America herself; major newspapers and network television turn a blind eye to events that fail to echo the message they want us to hear. Or they spin and twist them until they SEEM to confirm what they've said all along.
In this case, that message is that even smokers think smoking bans are a good idea. "I haven't seen any resistance from anyone to this new law", one legislator is quoted as saying. "There really haven't been any significant protests at all, so we must be doing something right" Note the use of the qualifier 'significant'.
While claiming to be "grassroots" organizations, tobacco control advocates have access to an enormous budget, subsidized by contributions from the likes of AHA, ALA, ACS who grow fat soliciting donations most of the public believes goes to medical research seeking cures for diseases. More about this funding fraud in a future post, but the point is it takes a lot to be heard above all the loudly proclaimed propaganda.

Kathleen you've pinned it down perfectly! The funding strength of the Antismoking Lobby, along with the public perception they've built that everything they say is "for the good of the children" gives them the power of the public microphone.
Smokers for the most part have no funding or venue to aid them in organizing any sort of protest or civil disobedience although that is changing as they get connected through the internet and learn that the lie that they are all alone in their feelings is just that... a lie.
Antismokers have learned the power of public perception: if the TV comes on and says "Everyone is rioting in the streets!" it's a sure way to inspire rioting. If instead they are "responsible" and say "Most residents are staying indoors and watching the news of these isolated incidents on TV." then people will indeed stay indoors and watch TV. The media feels they have a "responsibility" to downplay any strength of rebellion by smokers because to give it airtime gives it validity... and giving it validity would inspire still more rebellion as people realize they most definitely are NOT alone.
Best of luck with your Blog and Tale Kathleen! Grab that microphone and scream into it for all you're worth!

I think I have had enough of the laxed attitudes of Americans with concerns about smoking. Nobody has really taken an action to prevent the erroneous bans and tax hikes. Nothing will change until smokers ban together and hit the Government where it hurts. There are so many recognized days in our nation that I think smoker's need one of their own. It could be in accordance with the National Smoke Out Day. Maybe we, smoker's, could decide on a day to refrain from buying tobacco products. Just like Ozone Free Days the Smoker Advocates could practice this weekly. It is a huge statement that would definetely get the Governments attention. With just a little research I found that the population of America was about 300 million and the smoking population was about 22% of that. The state taxes are a $ 1.03 and the Federal tax is $.39. If you take the 600 million smoker's and multiply it by the tax an estimated $6 million deficit of revenue is produced. Now multiply this times 4 and you get a whopping $24 million. This boycott with only 10% of the smoking population will definetely get some attention. This is only a suggestion to our situation, but it cannot hurt to try. If anyone is willing and ready to make a huge effort I would love to hear a reply.
